Why do you require school uniforms?
We believe and the research supports us, that when students are dressed in uniforms they behave more appropriately and are better prepared to work hard during the school day. A description of our uniforms is provided in the Parent/Student Handbook.
What is the cost of tuition?
The Knight Academy is a tuition-free, public community (also known as a charter) school. Initially there is a $25.00 application fee, and once your child is enrolled there is a $50.00 class fee if your family does not qualify for free/reduced meals.
Do you have an after-school program?
Yes, we offer and after-school program for all students. The program runs until 6:00 PM Monday-Thursday, and until 5:30 PM on Friday. The cost is $2.25/hour.
Do you provide transportation?
No, we do not provide transportation to and from school. Parents are responsible for providing transportation to our program. Oftentimes, parents choose to carpool with families living in their area, and we are more than willing to provide you with the names of other families living near you that may interested in such a arrangement. Parents providing transportation may annually request reimbursement for travel on a form provided and signed by the school. Additionally, students may request a free TARTA bus pass that is valid during school hours.
How do you keep parents informed with respect to student progress?
We believe that one of our most important responsibilities as school personnel is to keep parents informed of their child's adjustment and progress in our program. We have developed a comprehensive communication system to achieve this goal. Grades and homework are available online to parents, in order that parents can check daily (if they wish) to monitor grades and assignments completed. Teachers are encouraged to email and telephone parents regarding student performance and we have an instant messaging system that sends announcements and changes in schedule via email, text message and/or voicemail. We also encourage parents to visit the school at any time to discuss their child's progress.
Can I enroll my child once school has already started for the year?
Yes, you may enroll your child at any point during the school year. Please contact our office to arrange an appointment and tour of our school. We also encourage families considering enrollment to have their child spend a day attending classes and participating in our daily activities to assist in determining whether our school is the "right fit" for your child.
What are your hours of operation?
Our school day begins at 8:00 a.m. with a school-wide assembly. Instruction occurs from 8:15-4:00 pm Monday thru Thursday with the last hour being Academic Assist. Friday's school dismisses at 3:05 pm. Please visit our section on Academics for a more detailed description of our school day.
