The Knight Academy prides itself in its academic program which emphasizes excellence and preparation for future success in education and employment. The Academy currently offers a full curriculum for grades 5-8.
Students receive daily instruction in the four core subjects areas of Language Arts, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics from highly qualified teachers. Accelerated instruction is available for those students performing beyond grade level. In addition, the daily schedule includes Chinese or Spanish, Physical Education/Health, Art and Music. All courses are aligned with the Ohio Department of Education's State Content Standards while moving towards implementation of the new Common Core Standards.
In an attempt to maximize the academic success of each student, performance testing is administered three times a year using Scantron, a web-based assessment instrument. The Fall test administration is used to initially measure entry learning levels and is contrasted with Winter and Spring results to determine year-long student advancement, while additionally providing a measurement of program effectiveness.
An extended school schedule sets the tone and supports the overall goal of The Academy in striving for excellence in academic achievement, character development, and preparation for high school. The school year runs from August until mid-June, and the instructional school day operates from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. The longer school day allows for an hour of Academic Assist, during which students have the opportunity to work on daily homework and visit any teacher for individualized instruction. Tutoring is also available by students from area high schools that have been recommended as a result of their high scholastic achievement and ability to serve as positive peer role models.
